I love working in clay to produce one-of-a-kind sculptures
that include geometric assemblages, abstract figures, and cubes embedded with
mask-like faces. The stoneware medium is wonderfully responsive to me and encourages
full and free expression. The sculptures are non-representational, modernist
in style, and draw upon a broad vocabulary of shapes and ideas. They hint at
relationships and underlying emotions. Architectural references, cityscapes,
and habitats are seen in some works. I leave final interpretations to the viewer.
After firing, I add a rich patina to the forms by rubbing and blending oil
paints from a wide palate into the surfaces. The sculptures are a perfect size
for pedestal or tabletop placement.
The work has been exhibited widely in solo and group shows in New York City and the Metropolitan area as well as East coast locations from Vermont to Georgia . Several works have won prizes. The sculptures are in collections in this country, Europe , and the Far East.
