ELAN DANIEL LOUIS is an award-winning artist who is driven by a passion for self-expression through visual art. His pastel works are often noted for their unique and imaginative style and technique. This art conveys a sense of movement, often portrayed in vivid colors. These pastel works are contrasted with his pencil and paper studies of peoples’ faces, which present striking detail. The subject of these sketches is often the dispossessed, and the pieces deliver a more serious tone. In recent years, Elan has branched out to mixed media and collage, using colored paper to work on form, color and composition all at the same time, and creating pieces that have been described as both whimsical and delightful. Elan is largely self-taught artist. His artwork has been represented by several galleries in the New York and Tri-state area and his work, which has been featured in the New York Times, is in collections in the United States and Europe.
The current show, Continuums and Connections, features each of these media, and highlights Louis’ personal and artistic journey over the most recent two years.
