The majority of the Romungros, the Hungarian Gypsies, still live segregated on the “Gypsy Row”, on the last streets of the villages and towns.

There are 12 million Roma people scattered around the world. 70 percent of the European Gypsy population settled in Central and Eastern Europe. Hungary is at the fourth place after Romania, Bulgaria and Spain in terms of estimated figures for the number of Gypsies resident in 38 European countries. The Gypsy population forms the largest ethnic minority in Hungary with their number  between 400,000 and 600,000. - Rita Baunok
